1. Who we are
Service Zone Pty Ltd (ABN 43 702 407 216, ACN 702 407 216), referred to as “Service Zone”, “we”, “us” or “our”, operates a platform connecting customers with local tradespeople and service businesses across Australia.
This policy explains how we collect, hold, use and disclose personal information when you visit our website, use either of our apps, register, request services, respond to jobs or contact us. We handle personal information in accordance with applicable Australian privacy laws, including the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and Australian Privacy Principles where they apply to us.
2. Information we collect
The information we collect depends on how you use Service Zone. It may include:
- Account and contact details: your name, email address, phone number, account identifier and authentication information.
- Customer and job information: service address, suburb, postcode, requested trade, job description, preferred timing, photos, enquiries, quotes, communications and job history.
- Tradie and business information: business name, ABN, trade categories, service areas, availability, profile description, business logo and any licence or insurance details you provide for verification.
- Platform records: job acceptance and completion records, invoices created through supported features, notification preferences, support requests and complaints.
- Technical information: IP address, device and browser information, operating system, app version, activity timestamps, diagnostic records and push notification tokens, where collected by the services we use.
- Location information: the address, suburb, postcode or service area you enter, and device location if you enable a feature that requests it and grant permission.
Please avoid including unnecessary personal information about yourself or others in job descriptions, messages or photos. We do not ask for sensitive information, such as health information, as part of ordinary registration or job matching. If collecting sensitive information becomes necessary, we will explain why and obtain consent unless the law permits otherwise.
3. How we collect information
We collect information directly when you register, complete a profile, submit a job, upload content, respond to requests, communicate through the platform or contact us. Some technical information is collected automatically when you use our services.
We may also receive information from another user involved in your job, service providers supporting the platform, and public business or licence registers used to check details. Where we collect business contact information from a public directory or another source for outreach, we limit it to information relevant to that purpose and comply with applicable marketing laws. A publicly listed email address does not automatically give us permission to send marketing.
You can generally browse public pages without creating an account and may make a general enquiry anonymously or using a pseudonym where practicable. We need sufficient contact and job information to register accounts, verify businesses and connect customers with tradies. Without that information, some services may be unavailable.
4. Why we use information
We use personal information to:
- create and manage accounts and verify contact or business details;
- match service requests with relevant tradies based on trade, location, service area and availability;
- deliver job requests, quotes, communications and supported invoice features;
- send verification codes, approval messages, job updates and other service notifications;
- provide support, resolve disputes and investigate misuse or suspected fraud;
- maintain, secure and improve the website and apps;
- meet legal obligations and maintain necessary business records; and
- send permitted marketing communications and manage marketing preferences.
Publishing this policy does not itself provide consent for unrelated uses of your information.
5. What other users can see
Customers: When you request a service, relevant job details and location information are shared with tradies invited to respond. The job acceptance flow makes your phone number available to a tradie after they accept the job. Details you put directly into descriptions, messages or photos may be visible earlier to recipients of that content, so avoid including contact details unnecessarily.
Tradies: Your business profile information, including business name, logo, trade categories, service area and availability, may be displayed to customers. Contact information and job communications are shared as needed for the relevant service request.
Information shared with another user may be retained by that user for their own legitimate business or legal purposes. Tradespeople operate independently and are responsible for their own handling of personal information. Contact us if you believe a user has misused information obtained through Service Zone.
6. Other disclosures and service providers
We may disclose relevant information to service providers that support hosting, databases, authentication, email, SMS, push notifications, maintenance and support. Our technology providers include Supabase, Firebase/Google, Twilio, Expo and Resend, depending on the service and feature used. Our website hosting infrastructure also uses Cloudflare.
We may also disclose information to professional advisers, regulators or law enforcement where required or authorised by law, or where necessary and lawful to investigate misuse or protect safety. If ownership of the business changes, relevant information may be transferred subject to appropriate confidentiality and privacy safeguards.
We do not sell personal information or provide customer or tradie contact lists to third parties for their unrelated marketing.
7. Overseas storage and processing
Our technology providers may store, process or access personal information outside Australia, including through support teams and subprocessors. The locations depend on our hosting configuration and each provider's arrangements.
Overseas recipients may be located in the United States, including providers supporting email delivery. Other processing locations depend on the provider, service and hosting region used. Provider and subprocessor locations can change; contact us for current information about the arrangements relevant to your data.
Where required by law, we take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle personal information consistently with applicable Australian privacy requirements. You can contact us for information about these arrangements.
8. App permissions, cookies and external services
Depending on the feature you use, an app may request access to location, the camera, selected photos, notifications or the microphone. Camera and photo permissions support uploads; location supports location-based features; microphone access supports voice input where available. Device or third-party dictation services may process voice input under their own policies.
You can manage permissions through your device settings. Disabling a permission may prevent the associated feature from working. Notification tokens allow us and our delivery providers to send push notifications to your device.
The website may use cookies or similar storage to maintain sign-in sessions, remember settings and support security. You can manage cookies through your browser, although blocking essential storage may affect functionality. If we introduce optional analytics or advertising technology, we will explain the information collected and provide any consent controls required by law before use.
When you open a map, make a phone call or use an external service from Service Zone, the external provider's privacy policy also applies.
9. Service messages and marketing
We send service-related messages about registration, verification, job requests, responses, approvals and account security. Marketing messages are sent only where permitted by law, including obtaining consent where required.
You can unsubscribe from marketing using the instructions in the message or by contacting us. We honour unsubscribe requests within the time required by law. Unsubscribing from marketing does not stop necessary service or security messages. You can also manage app notifications in your device settings.
10. Payments
Under our current service model, customers pay tradies directly. Payment information you provide directly to a tradie or their payment provider is handled under their arrangements. If Service Zone introduces subscriptions or platform payment processing, we will update the relevant notices and this policy to explain the additional information collected and providers involved.
11. Security and retention
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Access is limited to people and providers who need it for authorised purposes. No online system can guarantee absolute security.
We keep information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate accounts, manage jobs, resolve disputes, maintain security and meet applicable legal and recordkeeping obligations. Retention depends on the type of record and its purpose. When information is no longer needed and retention is not legally required, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it. Backup copies may remain until they are overwritten through the applicable backup cycle.
If a data breach occurs, we will assess and respond to it and notify affected individuals and regulators where legally required.
12. Access, correction and account deletion
You can update profile details through available account settings or contact us to request access to or correction of your personal information. We may need to verify your identity before acting. We will respond within a reasonable period and explain any lawful reason for refusing a request and the available complaint options.
You can request account deletion by contacting us using the details below, or through an in-app deletion option where available. We will explain any records that need to be retained and why. Deleting your account or uninstalling an app does not automatically remove records independently held by a tradie, customer or other third party. Uninstalling an app alone does not delete your account.
13. Privacy enquiries and complaints
Contact our Privacy Contact if you have a question, want to exercise a privacy choice or believe your information has been mishandled:
